The Twenty Two Great Houses
The Council of Nomos is composed of the twenty three members, twenty two of which are rulers of the Great Houses. Great House rulers, or Anakes (Anax), are from a long line of Noble rulers, which is based on lineage. The Anakes are the highest form of Achaean Nobility, aside from the King, and they are some of the wealthiest and most privileged Achaeans in Mecone. Although they are never killed (with one exception), many attempt to politically embarrass their line such that they are forced to disband their House and redistribute their goods and funds, making way for a new family line to create a new Great House. These occurrences are rare, but have happened before, and the world of Achaean nobility is a life of intrigue and smoke and daggers.
The twenty two Houses, at this point in time, are as follows with their Anax in parenthesis: Orpheus (Akademos), Perseus (Dion), Andromeda (Memnon), Niobe (Deiphontes), Chrysippus (Tyndareus), Ino (Midas), Asclepius (Creon), Bolina (Phineus), Orithyia (Euxantius), Ganymede (Telamon), Daedalus (Ilus), Theseus (Cadmus), Ismene (Menelaus), Jocasta (Nycteus), Bellerophon (Hyrieus), Iolaus (Sisyphus), Briseis (Rhesus), Phaedra (Cyzicus), Semele (Lycaon), Abderus (Pelops), Hermione (Anaxagoras), Jason (Nestor).
